Felt Ornaments

I recently decided I wanted to make some felt ornaments and since I enjoy Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and FB I figured why not make their logos!!

They are all made with 2 layers of felt with their color logo pieces added on top of that. A felt hanger makes hanging these from your tree a great addition to the holidays.
I am thinking with these and my banners I need to get moving on the etsy shop.

Birthday Banner

I've always liked felt banners.
First of all because felt is a likable material, easy to cut, cheap to buy and easy to sew.
I wanted to make a banner for Aubry's first birthday but wasn't sure what it should say or what colors to use. I decided one night while lying it bed, or perhaps in the shower, two great places I have ideas, that it would say "hugs & kisses & b-day wishes"
Here's the end product: 2 banners, one saying "hugs & kisses" the other "b-day wishes"

I started by purchasing a packet of felt at Wal-mart.
Then I:
~ picked out 8 colors I liked and cut them into triangles
~ found a font that I liked
~ printed the words at the correct size
~ pinned the paper letters to the white felt pieces
~ cut out the paper letter/felt letters
~ pinned the letters to the felt triangles
~ sewed one line through the middle of the letters
~ I connected them all off with double bias tape

Now that the festivities are over and in an attempt to rid my home of unnecessary items I've sent the banners to Mali, West Africa via Wisconsin. there they will be used in the American school, hospital and maybe even the homes of the English speaking families there?

Felt Banners

I saw this crocheted banner hanging on twigs in a jar a while ago on Pinterest and fell in love; but since I don't crochet very well I decided to make my own little banners out of felt.

I love Aubry watching ever so curious while eating lunch
I am on a mission to actually make what I see on Pinterest, the link to the original pin can be found by clicking here, sorry it wasn't linked to properly from Pinterest but I wanted to give her credit.

Vertical Pallet Garden

When I saw this vertical garden planted in an old pallet I fell in love. I decided I'd make one with 2 recent pallets I picked up down the street. It was a bit more costly than I had expected, close to $100, but I am glad to have my herbs and some pretty color greeting me when I arrive home.

I started with my pallet, plants (only some shown here) and soil.
I laid out my plants just to get an idea about how many plants I'd need and also to see what would look nice in terms of their layout
I cut down one of the old pieces of trampoline we kept and Steve secured it to the back of the pallet, he made sure it covered the sides and bottom of the crate, He then used pieces from a second crate to give the back a little more support (no picture).

Then I slowly began to add soil and plants. We let it sit horizontal on the patio for a week and then leaned it up against the house!

Repurposed T-shirt

Thanks to Pinterest I now have a way to actually wear all of those mission trip and retreat t-shirts I have accumulated over the past 7 years in youth ministry. Here is the blog link with the tutorial.

It took me 15 minutes start to finish, I have a stack of shirts that I am gonna do this to- I am not a boxy t-shirt wearer.
